Arij has ambitions to extend and intertwine the traditional role of a structural engineer with tackling societal and environmental issues. Since graduating from Cardiff University in 2021, she has been working to break down barriers through STEM outreach programmes to encourage a wider pool of people into engineering and founded a non-governmental organisation initiative to build hempcrete refugee shelters in Lebanon.  

Arij’s hard work and passion has seen her win the IStructE Cymru Prize 2021, the ICE Student Prize 2021, Cardiff University’s Page Prize for three consecutive years, awarded for the best final grades across her course, and a Finalist for the IStructE Young Structural Engineering Professional Award 2024.
